A few years ago, someone asked me, “What’s the hardest exercise to do in the gym?”
It’s not the push-up. It’s not the pull-up. It’s not even the sit-up.
It’s the show up.
That’s the one most people skip. Not because it’s physically hard — but because it’s uncomfortable. It means getting out of bed when the covers are warm. Walking through unfamiliar doors when you’re nervous. Starting before you feel “ready.”
But if you’re wondering how to start going to the gym, here’s what every beginner needs to know:

1. Showing Up Is 90% of the Work
When someone walks into Trinity Gym NYC for the first time, we always say the same thing: “If you got here, you’ve already won.”
You don’t need to know what to do. That’s what our coaches and small group training programs are for. But none of it matters if you don’t show up.
So if you walk in, you win. We’ll take it from there.
2. No One Is Watching You
Worried about looking awkward? Out of place? Like you don’t belong?
Here’s the truth: no one is paying attention to you — because they’re focused on themselves. Just like you will be.
Our Trinity NYC community is welcoming, supportive, and full of people who remember what it felt like to be new. You’ll never be alone here — but you will be free to move at your own pace, with guidance and encouragement.
3. It Gets Easier
Not just the workouts — the routine. The rhythm. The internal voice that tells you you can do this. And the habits that start to click into place with every session.
Every time you show up, you’re not just training your body — you’re training your mindset.
That’s how momentum starts. And momentum changes everything.
Tip of the Week: August Non-Negotiables
This month, I’m sharing one tip per week to help you keep moving through August — even if life feels busy, hot, or off-track. Here’s this week’s:
Pick 2–3 Daily Non-Negotiables:
- Take 10,000 steps
- Eat a protein-rich breakfast
- Move for 15 minutes every morning
- Carry a water bottle everywhere
If you finish summer at the same strength, energy, or weight as where you are now — that’s a win.
Consistency doesn’t have to be perfect. Even 60% effort now beats starting from scratch in September.
