The secret to health is simple: keep it simple.
I was chatting with my Dad on the phone this week and he recited a quote he had learned by heart:
“Happy the man whose wish and care,
A few paternal acres bound,
Content to breathe his native air,
In his own ground.”
As I’ve shared before, my father is the healthiest, most content man I know. So when he speaks, I listen. And this 300-year-old quote reminded me of something we often forget today: happiness doesn’t come from chasing more — it comes from appreciating the simple things.

Why Keeping Health Simple Works
Health works the same way as happiness. You don’t need complicated supplements, six-hour gym sessions, or the latest fad diet. What you do need is the simple, consistent stuff — the basics done well.
- Breathing fresh air on a walk.
- Eating real, nourishing food.
- Moving your body every day.
- Sleeping enough.
- Being part of a supportive community.
These are the “paternal acres” of modern life — the small, daily practices that, when cultivated, give us strength, energy, and joy.
Stop Chasing More, Start Practicing Consistency
Too many people complicate fitness by adding more — more supplements, more rules, more time in the gym. But the truth is, the basics repeated consistently are what matter most. At Trinity Gym NYC, we see this every day in our personal training in Long Island City and our small group fitness classes.
Members who keep health simple — showing up, moving consistently, sleeping well, and surrounding themselves with support — achieve results that last. Complexity creates confusion. Simplicity builds strength.
Tip of the Week
Instead of setting an alarm to wake up, set an alarm to go to bed on time. Prioritizing rest gives your body and mind the recovery they need — and that’s one of the simplest, most powerful health habits you can build.
