The Seasons of Your Fitness Journey at Trinity Gym NYC

I want to share a story that feels like a lifetime ago. Some of you know bits of it, but not the whole saga. A few years back—right as the world was shutting down at the start of the pandemic—I was working in a gym that suddenly closed its doors. One day everything was normal. Sessions full, music loud, people laughing and suffering at the same time. And the next day?

Lights off. Door locked. Silence.

To paint the picture clearly:

  • I could not work in another gym because they were all closed.
  • I could not get a bar job because bars were closed too.
  • I could not even train people outdoors because it was illegal.

So what did I do? I climbed to the roof of my apartment and started teaching online classes with a sketchy internet connection. And the attendance? For the first two weeks… my aunt was the only person who showed up. Every class. Rain, wind, freezing mornings. And she did not even do the workout — she just watched out of pity.

Life Moves in Seasons

Looking back, that experience taught me a lesson I have carried into coaching at Trinity Gym NYCyour fitness journey has seasons. Before the gym closed, everything felt like Summer. Warm, energetic, full of momentum. Life was bright and everything was working. Then overnight, Winter arrived. A season of uncertainty, stillness, stress, and questions like “How on earth did I end up teaching burpees to the sky?”

But here is the truth in fitness and in life: Winter always gives way to Spring.

Spring is the season of new beginnings — small shoots, fresh starts, and new ideas. For me, Spring began when people slowly started joining those rooftop classes. One person… then a few more… then enough to feel like real sessions again. And eventually, Spring grew into Summer. Momentum returned. Opportunities showed up. And what began as desperation on a windy rooftop became the foundation for everything that eventually led to The Trinity Gym NYC.

The Seasons of Your Fitness Journey

Your fitness journey has seasons too. Understanding them helps you stay grounded, patient, and confident — no matter what phase you are in.

  • Summer: You feel strong, consistent, and full of momentum. Workouts click. Energy is high. You feel connected to your habits.
  • Autumn: A natural slowdown. Time to reflect, adjust goals, and let go of routines that are no longer serving you.
  • Winter: A tough season. Motivation dips. Stress rises. Progress feels slow. But this is where roots grow deeper and resilience forms.
  • Spring: Renewal. You feel hopeful again. Small steps build confidence. You begin moving forward with purpose.

No season lasts forever. But every season leads to the next. And when you understand the seasons of your fitness journey, setbacks stop feeling like failures — they start feeling like part of the cycle.

How Trinity NYC Helps You Through Each Season

At Trinity Gym NYC, we see these seasons every day in our small group fitness classes and personal training sessions in Long Island City. Some members walk in during Summer, ready for challenge. Others walk in during Winter, unsure where to begin. Both are welcome. Both are normal. And both can move forward.

Our job as coaches is not to rush your season — it is to support you in it. To give you structure when life feels chaotic. To push you when you are ready. To steady you when things feel heavy. And to remind you that no phase is final.

This Week’s Takeaway

When everything feels like it is falling apart, it might actually be falling into place. Trust the season you are in. Keep moving, even slowly. Your next season is already on the horizon.
